Backpacks may be required in several situations. They are widely used for travelling, trekking or for carrying books for study if one is enrolled as a student. They are quite popular as one’s hands remain totally free of any load if one is carrying a back pack. It is a very easy way to carry heavy loads or a collection of many items that cannot be put in a small bag. However, in recent years, backpacks have been known to cause several kinds of back related problems that if left untreated can spiral into major health ailments.
The president of the California Chiropractic Association has been quoted as stating that as she is a mother of a young school child, she is well aware of the popularity of different backpacks featuring cartoon characters and bright, vibrant colors that kids demand. She wishes to fulfill her duty as a mother and a doctor by doing what is best for the health and well being of her children in the long run. She goes on to say that before a purchase of a new back pack for kids is made, it is extremely important to discuss the kind of bag that your child wants. After this, a few tips can be kept in mind in order to ensure the right kind of back pack that does not put too much strain on the spine is bought.
There are several things that can be considered while purchasing a new back pack. Some of them are:
- The bag must have shoulder straps of enough width that can properly distribute the weight of the bag evenly onto the shoulders. Apart from this, the shoulder straps must be padded so that they do not dig into the shoulders of the child.
- The back of the back pack should also be padded so that it provides sufficient support and makes it easier and more comfortable to carry the bag.
- Back packs having waist belts should be preferred as the stomach area can help carry the load of the bag and the shoulders or spine does not have to bear the whole brunt of carrying the bag.
